About

Cast On With Knitting Needles

  1. Create a slip knot and place it on the left needle.
  2. Cross the left needle over the right needle, making an X with the left needle tip pointing to the right and the right needle tip pointing to the left. The working yarn should be under both needle tips.
  3. Wrap the working yarn from the right side over the left needle and in between the needle tips to the back of the work.
  4. Wrap the working yarn from the left side over the right needle and in between the needle tips to the back of the work.
  5. Pull the loop on the right needle to the front of the work.
  6. Pinch the base of the loop on the right needle and remove the right needle from the loop. The right leg of the loop will be in front of the needle. Insert the right needle back into the loop so that the left leg of the loop is in front.
  7. Repeat steps 2-5.
  8. Bind off one stitch from the right needle.
  9. Repeat step 6.
  10. Repeat steps 7-9 until the desired number of stitches minus one stitch are cast on, not counting the slip knot.
  11. Transfer the remaining loop on the right needle to the left needle as the final cast on stitch.
